How Arizona votes, precinct by precinct

In American elections, turnout and results can vary sharply from state to state — and within the same state. Arizona is no exception. This module maps certified election returns at the precinct level — the smallest unit each county actually runs an election in. Each of the state's 15 counties draws and administers its own precincts, so the map below is a mosaic of fifteen separate county systems — and because those lines are redrawn every cycle, each election year is its own map.

Precincts are where ballots are cast and counted, and where the Secretary of State certifies results. They nest inside — but are not the same as — the districts drawn for Congress and the Legislature: a single precinct can split across districts, and district lines and precinct lines move on different schedules. Reading returns at this resolution shows the actual texture of Arizona's vote, from dense, lopsided urban precincts to sprawling rural ones.

Pick an election and a contest, then hover or click a precinct for its certified tallies. The default contest is the headline race for that year (President in 2024, Governor in 2022) — the same race that drives each precinct's two-party Rep share and party registration splits. Candidate races are colored by two-party Republican share (blue → red); ballot measures by Yes share. The detail panel shows the precinct winner; the distribution chart situates a selected precinct or county against all Arizona precincts.
